Getting Socked is a Blessing!

Even though I am trying to keep things simple and the focus where it should be, it seems like no matter how much I plan, these last couple weeks before Christmas are a busy time. It’s been extra busy because we are also doing a partial remodel on our kitchen. Yes, call us C-R-A-Z-Y!  It was supposed to be completed by now, giving us enough time to clean things up and prepare for Christmas. Our DIY part is completed, but needless to say, the contractor for our counter-tops called with bad news yesterday, and the install may or may not happen next week. So without my cook-top in place and no counter-tops, my prayer for this season is flexibility! It’s all a matter of perspective and flexibility is a good thing. That’s what I keep reminding myself!

That’s why last night’s time of laughter and fellowship were so refreshing! We’ve changed things up a bit this year in our women’s ministry adding a once a month”Refresh” night to our calendar. Our hope is that it is a time when ladies can get together, try something new, be creative, get outside their comfort zone, and minister to others the love of Christ.

We’ve had activities such as a park prayer walk and witnessing, a group painting class, a joys of journaling workshop  which is coming next month, and last night, a Christmas sock exchange.

The idea came from one of the ladies in our group that saw this on Pinterest.

We put our own touch on the night by beginning with a devotional, sharing what we would like to see the Lord work in our hearts over the holidays, and a sweet time of praying for one another.

As for the exchange, instead of getting numbers and “stealing” the socks from one another…I never did like doing that when I’ve gone to parties…we did something much more fun.

Sitting around a large table, we exchanged our stuffed socks, by rolling the dice. If you rolled and even number, everyone passed their socks to the right, if it was an odd number then you grabbed a question from the bag, read it aloud, and everyone the question applied to got up and exchanged their socks. There were socks flying everywhere, but more than that, there wasn’t one lady who wasn’t laughing and smiling. It was pure fun. We then each opened our socks to reveal all kinds of little blessings.

Mine was so well thought out with a themed Scripture from  Isaiah 52:7.

“How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
    who bring good tidings,
    who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
   Your God reigns!”

…and filled with all kinds of pedicure items, some calming tea, along with praise music, candy …I ate the candy on the way home ;), and a little sign that read “peace.”

It was such a blessing…getting socked, we just might have to do this again next year!
