Pin It! Tried and True Tuesday # 20: A Baby Gift Made with Love and Prayers

Pin It! Tried and True Tuesday # 20

Flannel Baby Burp Cloths

There have been a lot of babies born in my little corner of the world lately! It’s always a bit of a challenge to know what to get the new Mom and Dad that will be practical and thoughtful. This new little family (my friend is the new Grandma) had challenges right from the beginning of conception. Little Ezekiel Gideon was given grim news from doctor after doctor that he would have a myriad of devastating birth defects and would most likely not make it to birth. Although five weeks early, he was born two months ago! God has definite plans for this little one!

“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” Psalm 139:13-14

He does, and will, have health challenges, and has already endured heart surgery, but has none of the problems they were told all throughout pregnancy. He remains in the hospital, but the family hopes to bring their precious boy home in a month. Would you please pray for these young, first time parents, and for their sweet, baby Ezekiel?  God has already used this little guy as a testimony to His greatness and His purposes for each and every life! Thank you. By the way, his name means: God Strengthens ~ Mighty Warrior. ❤

Needless to say, I wanted to make something really soft, and that they could use now, while snuggling in close to him in the hospital. These DIY flannel burp cloths were the exact thing.  They are so easy to create! Even if you are not a seamstress (and I don’t consider myself  one!), Homemade by Jill has made a simple to follow tutorial and printable pattern.

Here is What I Did:

  • Followed this tutorial
  • Made 1/2 dozen cloths mixing and matching 3 different material patterns

I love the sweet ruffled edges these make!

Helpful Hints:

  • You should have no problems printing out the pattern using Homemade by Jill’s exact instructions.
  • Using a rotary cutter and pad is faster and will give you a cleaner line
  • I found NOT pre-washing  the material was not an issue
  • After assembling, I washed the cloths on warm and tumble dried low. I tied them with a tag for care instructions.
  • One burp cloth takes about 20-30 minutes from cutting out the pattern, fabric, and batting to fully sewing and edging.

I’ve saved the pattern to make more in the future. Want to give a practical and useful, homemade baby gift?  Give this one a try.

On behalf of Ezekiel’s family, thank you for your prayers ❤
